Diets don’t work
Did you hear that shocking revelation?
That’s right, for most people, diets are doomed to fail.
But how can that be you say? I’ve seen Gladys from number 22 shed four stones and she did it on the Fancy Pants Diet that some skinny celebrity has been endorsing.
Well, let me explain.
A diet is an eating plan dictated to you by someone else.
Sure, they work for a while. You may even loose a significant amount of weight and be able to buy those fabulous jeans you’ve had your eyes on.
But. If you have not addressed the underlying reasons for your weight gain, the minute something goes wrong/or right in your life, or you take your eye off the goal, you will return to your old eating habits and the weight goes straight back on.
Then you feel like an utter failure and the cycle starts all over again.
So how am I supposed to ever lose weight then?
To successfully lose weight and, just as importantly, to maintain that weight loss, the role that food plays in your life needs to change.
You need to learn to respect food and recognise the role it should play in your life.
Most of all you need to learn to respect yourself.
You have probably been on a journey for some time. A journey through trendy diets, visits to the doctor, dieticians and slimming clubs and trips to the gym.
Whatever you have done your weight has probably yo-yo’d along with your emotions.
You’re fed up with calorie counting or denying yourself whole food groups and you are desperately looking for the next miracle to come along.
But if you look honestly at all that you have tried, can you say you have given yourself a real chance of success by dealing with the underlying problems that caused your weight gain in the first place?
There are many reasons for weight gain:
- Using food as a reward, telling yourself “I’ve had a really good day so I’ll reward myself with…”
- Using food as a comfort saying “I’ve had a bad day so I’ll cheer myself up with…” ?
- Gaining weight to form a barrier between yourself and others to (subconsciously) keep people away
- Comfort eating to compensate for something that is missing, to fulfill an emotional or psychological need
If you are overeating for any of these reasons, the bottom line is diets will simply not work for you.
Many reasons for weight gain are attached to past events – either emotional or traumatic – that give rise to feelings of self-doubt and worthlessness. Then you start to need comfort and protection and you mistakenly look for it in food.
Whatever the reason, these experiences become embedded in the unconscious mind so, just as you feel you are gaining control, you find yourself sabotaging your success.
How often have you stood on the scales and laid the blame for whatever they say at the feet of someone else? It’s easier to do that than see that it is a part of you that is the cause.
So how can hypnotherapy help you lose weight you’re asking?
You need to find a therapist who understands that a weight problem is about more than simply eating too much or being lazy.
They won’t judge you by how much you weigh. They don’t need to know.
Losing weight and then maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle is more to do with self-belief and self-worth than counting calories or cutting out food groups.
Hypnotherapy can help you recognise your own triggers for weight gain, deal with them and move on.
A course of hypnotherapy will access the unconscious mind and allow you to negotiate with the part of you that holds on to the belief that you need to overeat or abuse your body by eating unhealthily.
It will help you listen to your inner voice, that powerful unconscious voice that contains the knowledge and instincts which know you are worthwhile. The one that believes you have a right to well-being and happiness.
By opening these lines of communication, along with direct suggestion, you will be encouraged to see yourself in the future at a weight you want to be, while leading the active life you want to lead.
How does all that sound now?
With hypnotherapy you will find you are able to:
- enjoy the right kinds of food.
- eat for the right reasons.
- eat at the right times.
- eat with enjoyment, savoring the experience of nourishing your body.
- eat more slowly and stop when you are full.
As you begin to achieve these aims you will begin to lose weight naturally, developing a new self-image and self-worth.
However, be warned. The healthiest way to lose weight is not necessarily the quickest.
Dealing with the root causes of your weight problem is not necessarily the easiest.
But ultimately this is the best road for long-term success.
